This was actually the result of fortuitous circumstances, since I got my ticket via presale in August (after s&h/fees, this cost a little more than buying at the door, but I didn't know how easy it would be to do that). I missed out on getting a ticket for the Monday 11/23 show, so I had to settle for the Tuesday 11/24 date in NYC. I'm in Philly now, so this might seem a bit excessive, but keep in mind that Röyksopp hasn't been in the USA for 4 years and this "tour" only had 4 dates, 2 of which were in CA and the other 2 in NYC, so carpe diem and all.
ANYWAY I found out when the semester started that I had an exam on 11/23, from 6-9pm, so thank fucking god for that. Also, I normally have a seminar class (like journal club) that is on Tuesdays 1-4pm, but I was the only one who was supposed to present a paper that day, and since the previous time I had to present a paper was also right after an exam the teacher allowed me to switch to a later date. So I got to leave lab around 2pm (not having gotten much done in the meantime) walked to the bus pickup site, spent 2.5hrs getting into NY, met with my sister, ducked into urban outfitters and f21, had dinnar at num pang (I had the five spiced pork belly sandwich, which sadly was not as impressive as I had hoped for, seeing as I'd read about it in an article about the 10 most awesomest sammiches in Amerika; texture of pork belly = not like Nagasaki,
charmian would understand), and then arrived at Webster Hall by 8pm, which was the time on the ticket, which is an hour before the opener was due to start, sigh. Fortunately, the venue had wifi so I killed some time doing that after I had situated myself on the mezzanine stage right 10ft from the speakers (this seems to be a trend, since I know I did this with white rabbits, toook, two data points do not a trend make, w/e).
The opener was unextraordinary, and then we had to wait another 20min, but then Röyksopp came on... with 2 instrumental tracks that I didn't recognize... but after that it was pretty much like a rundown of their singles and a few others that I inexplicably knew, which was good since I was wondering if they'd be playing mostly from one album and I haven't actually snagged their entire discography, so I wasn't sure how much I'd recognize?
The tracklist contained (approximately):
something instrumental
something instrumental
this must be it
remind me
alpha male
happy up here
tricky tricky
the girl and the robot
what else is there
some unreleased track with "what does it feel like" in the refrain that shouldn't have anything to do with the felix da housecat track that royksopp has remixed
beautiful day without you (I think so, anyway)
you don't have a clue (maaaaaaay have been encore?)
only this moment
eple
I'm not sure about the order, so eple might not have been last, but they left the stage at 11:05 or so and came back out AND THEN THEY COVERED WUTHERING HEIGHTS AHAHAHAAA
There were 2 rounds of encores, and I think they were something like:
wuthering heights ("Bet you didn't expect that! :D"
so easy (they prefaced this one with downing a shot of tequila or something, "a gift from Mexico" >.>;;;)
poor leno
some tracks I have no clue about
And that was that! So that was pretty awesome, since the only track I might have wanted them to play that they didn't was "circuit breaker". I can't remember if they played "follow my ruin", though....
And then they were like "see you in 4 years! :D :D :D"
ASSHOLES.
... well, I'll still be in Philly in 4 years. ._.
Randomly; their female vocalist (from Norway?) can sing very like karin dreijer andersson, but less like robyn. Fairly suitable for kate bush, though.
